A couple of notes before diving into this week’s episode:
Applications have opened for On Deck Health’s second cohort. For an inside look, read about ODF/ODH fellow Madison Campbell’s On Deck experience. Coincidentally, her startup was backed by Bradley Tusk who recently joined us on the podcast.
We recently had Jarrod Dicker on the podcast to discuss web3 and DAOs. During On Deck’s Global Build Weekend, some community members just built what Balaji describes as “Stripe Atlas for DAOs” (we did an episode with Balaji too).
Enough with the announcements—let’s dive in!

🎧 Episode #11 | How Packy McCormick (ODF2) Plays the Great Online Game
Listen on Apple, Spotify, and Pocket Casts. Watch on YouTube
Packy McCormick writes the popular newsletter Not Boring and invests in startups via Not Boring Capital.
Over the last year, Packy has emerged as one of the most exciting “idea people” in the tech ecosystem, having written seminal essays on topics like the creator economy, web3, and breakdowns of complex startup business models. Along the way, he’s coined new terms and ideas that have become widely adopted by the tech ecosystem such as the “Cooperation Economy”, which is his term for a new way people are starting to flexibly affiliate and work together outside of rigid traditional corporate structures, and “The Great Online Game”, which describes how the cultivation of online reputations is increasingly leading to real-world rewards.
Packy documents the “Cooperation Economy” and “the Great Online Game” from the perspective of a passive observer, but make no mistake—he’s one of the top participants in both. On the morning we recorded this episode, he announced the launch of an $8M venture fund, Not Boring Capital, to help him double down on investing in the startups and emerging phenomena he analyses in his writing. In this conversation we go in-depth into Packy’s game, how he plays it, and where he thinks it’s all heading.
